William "Bill" Engelstad, aged 66, a long-time resident of Hibbing, Minnesota, and a beloved figure in the dirt track racing community, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Born on October 1st, 1958, in Virginia, Minnesota, Bill was the cherished son of Bud and June Engelstad and grew up imbued with a strong sense of family and community.
After graduating from the Hibbing High School in 1978, Bill quickly became known for his keen intellect, unwavering work ethic, and infectious enthusiasm. His professional journey led him to a fulfilling career with Wissota Auto Racing, where he dedicated many years as the Head Technical Director. Bill's expertise and fair-mindedness earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and racers alike.
Bill's marriage to his loving wife, Gina, was a testament to enduring partnership and mutual support. Together, they raised their son, Jake, who, along with his wife, Carly, brought immense joy to Bill's life. Bill was a family man at heart and cherished the bonds he shared with his brothers, Ron (Shirley) Engelstad and Joe (Nancy) Skerjance.
Preceded in death by father, Bud; mother, June; brothers, John and Buddy; sisters, Marie and Barbra Jo; mother-in-law, Gloria; and brother-in-law, George.
Beyond his family and career, Bill's passion for dirt track racing was unparalleled. He found solace and excitement on the track, where he was not only an observer but an active participant, often working on his friend's race cars. His knowledge of the sport and his love for the racing community were evident to all who knew him.
Bill's life was a portrait of dedication, both to his family and to the sport he loved. His legacy is one of kindness, mentorship, and the pursuit of excellence. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him in the racing world.
