Susan “Sue” Rikala Obituary

Susan Almeda Rikala, affectionately known as Sue by her loved ones, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on September 18, 2025, in Virginia, Minnesota. Born on November 15 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sue was a beacon of warmth and kindness throughout her 81 years of life.

Sue's early years in Minneapolis were filled with the joy of a close-knit family. She was the cherished daughter of Evelyn and Leonard Berglund and grew up alongside her siblings, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. She graduated from a Minneapolis high school, setting the stage for a life of service and community engagement.

After her education, Sue dedicated herself to a career in customer service at WCTA in Lake Mills, where her friendly demeanor and genuine care for others shone brightly. Her commitment to her community was further evident in her role as Treasurer at Wouri Town Hall. Sue's professional life was marked by a diverse range of roles that showcased her adaptability and willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed.

Sue's life was enriched by her marriage to Ronald Rikala of Virginia, MN. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Sue's legacy includes her sons, Ron Rikala Jr. of Lake Mills, IA, and Gary Rikala, along with his wife Kelly Rikala, of Virginia, MN. Her joy was multiplied with the arrival of her grandsons, Thomas Rikala of Aberdeen, MD, and Konner Rikala of Lake Mills, IA; granddaughter, Jozi Flynn of Sioux Falls, IA; and her great-grandsons, Miles Rikala of Lake Mills, IA, and Jaxon of Sioux Falls, IA.

Her brother, Duane Berglund of Minneapolis, MN, remembers her fondly, as she was a sister who brought happiness and support to her family. Sue was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ron Rikala; her parents, Evelyn and Leonard Berglund; and her siblings, Janice Brown, Arthur Berglund, Roger Berglund, and Donna Wickland.

Sue's Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and interactions with those around her. She lived her faith through her kindness and love, and by serving as an example of Christian virtues in her everyday life.

An avid crafter, Sue found joy in sewing, quilting, and various other crafting projects. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful works that were not only visually appealing but also filled with the love she stitched into every piece. Her love for coffee was well-known, often serving as a comforting backdrop to her many hours of crafting and time spent with friends and family.

Those who knew Sue will remember her as an exceptionally friendly, loving, and kind individual. She embodied these qualities in every aspect of her life, touching the hearts of those she encountered. Her smile, her laughter, and her unwavering positivity will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Sue Rikala's life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the strength of kindness, and the power of a loving heart. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the enduring impact she has left on her family, friends, and community.
