Susan Marie Ollila, known affectionately as Sue, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 6, 2023, in Zim, Minnesota. Born on April 18, 1954, in Hibbing, MN, Sue's life was a tapestry of kindness, love, and gentle grace that touched all who knew her.
Sue was a cherished pillar of her community, a devoted wife to her husband, Stephen Ollila, and a loving mother to her children, Jennifer Fredrickson and Joseph (Michele) Fredrickson. Her warmth and care extended to her beloved grandchildren, Donald and Cheyenne Bever, Kaitlin and Madison Pierce, Kelsea Kaivola, and Alana Lindberg, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
She grew up alongside her siblings, Ron (Margret) Johnson, Marlys (Jerry) Hill, Deborah Timm, Fred Johnson, and held a special bond with her cousin, Sharon Demar. Sue's educational journey began in the Mt. Iron schools, culminating in her graduation in 1972. Her professional life was marked by a nurturing spirit, as she ran a daycare, worked at Woodline Manufacturing, and was a familiar face at Cherry Greenhouse.
Sue's passions included sewing and gardening, hobbies that reflected her creative and nurturing nature. Her love for travel allowed her to explore and create lasting memories. Those who knew Sue will remember her for the kindness she effortlessly exuded, the love she gave unconditionally, and the gentle presence that made every moment with her a gift. She will also be remembered for her great traditional dishes she made including lefsa and squeaky cheese.
Sue's legacy is one of unwavering love and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have been part of her life.
Preceded in death by her father and mother, Roland and Jeanette Johnson; Father-in-Law, Paul Ollila; and infant brother.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Faith United Lutheran Church at 11 A.M. with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Christina Kadelbach will officiate. After the service a luncheon will be held at the church.
