Sheila Marie (Leppala) Karel

In loving memory of Sheila Marie Karel, March 7th, 1963 – July 31st, 2023.

On July 31st, 2023, the world lost a truly remarkable woman. Sheila, passed away in Hibbing, Minnesota after a long and courageous battle with her illness, leaving a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on March 7th, 1963, Sheila brought immense joy to the lives of her parents, Melvin and Audrey Leppala. Their love and guidance helped shape her into the extraordinary woman she became.

On a picturesque day in 1981, Sheila exchanged vows with the love of her life, Dennis Karel. Their marriage became the foundation of a beautiful family filled with unconditional love and endless support. Together they nurtured their two daughters, Klarissa and Shana, until they separated in 1994.

In all aspects of her life, Sheila emanated a radiant warmth that touched the lives of those around her. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her generosity was unparalleled. Her genuine compassion and innate ability to truly understand others brought solace to those in need. Friends flocked to her, seeking her wise counsel, unwavering support, and infectious laughter.

Grandparenthood brought a renewed sense of purpose and joy to Sheila’s life. She adored her four grandchildren: Coraline, Sylas, Jordan, and Brody, who filled her days with countless love and laughter. She embraced her role as a grandparent wholeheartedly, making each moment spent together a reassured memory that will be cherished by her family forever.

While her illness may have taken her suddenly in the end, the legacy Sheila leaves behind is immeasurable. She will forever be remembered as an angel on earth, showering compassion and joy upon those fortunate enough to cross her path.

In remembrance of Sheila’s extraordinary life, a memorial service will be held at Hibbing Christian Assembly on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.  Let us gather together to celebrate her spirit, cherishing the memories she gifted us, and finding solace in the knowledge that her beautiful soul rests eternally in peace.
