Sanford Carl Ersbo

Sanford Carl Ersbo, age 82, of Mt. Iron, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.

Sanford was born on November 16, 1941, to Carl and Caroline (Wajtas) Ersbo in Soudan, Minnesota. Growing up in the Tower area, he attended and graduated from the Soudan High School. He went on to attend the Vermilion College in Ely.

He married Helen Marie Nickolson on February 9, 1963, in Ely, MN. The couple made their home at Robinson Lake before moving to Mt. Iron in 1975.

Sanford worked at Minntac as a millwright. He retired in 1997, after working there for 25 years. He cared for Helen until she passed away in November 1997.

After his wife passed, he later met and married Dorothy "Pepper" (Zavodnick) Speilhagen. The couple continued their home in Mt. Iron. Sanford cared for Pepper until she also passed.

Survivors include his children: Teri (Bob) Ersbo, Jim Erbso, Tim (Bobbi) Ersbo; grandchildren: Jeremiah (Andrea) Ersbo, Ryan (Audrianna) Granlund, Tanner Stenlund, Hunter Ersbo; 4 great grandchildren; special friend, Sharon McCauley; nieces and nephews.

Sanford was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; siblings: Lorraine Ersbo, Lowell Ersbo, Nancy Beddome, Carol Kangas.

Per Sanford's wishes there is no service. Interment will be held at a later time in Greenwood Cemetery.
