Russell Eugene Long of Ely, Minnesota died the morning of November 21st, 2024. Born on November 8th, 1943, he was the oldest child of Forrest and Marion (Riemer) Long of Buena Park, California.

Russell graduated from Buena Park High School, class of 1961. He pursued higher education by obtaining a Master's in English and Bachelor's in History from Cal State Fullerton, and a Master's of Library Science from the University of Southern California.

Before starting his professional career, Russell served two years with the U.S. Army. He graduated Basic Training at Fort Ord, California and completed his tour of duty at Camp Coiner, Republic of South Korea earning the rank of Sergeant.

Russell held many notable positions, including Principal Administration Librarian in Orange County, California; Library Director in Sidney, Nebraska; Regional Librarian in Volusia County, Florida; Library Director in Del Norte, California; and Library Director for Josephine Community Libraries in Grants Pass, Oregon.

He had a passion for the arts and enjoyed listening to his music collection while reading from his books ranging from Westerns to historical documentaries. This was evident by his expansion of the visiting artists' displays showcased during his time at the Volusia County libraries.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Brian.
