Roger Mackey passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2025, at the age of 59.
Born in Eveleth, MN, he graduated from Cherry High School and earned a welding degree from Moorhead Tech. He briefly lived in Connecticut, Colorado, and Minneapolis before moving back to the Iron Range. He worked as a drill operator at United Taconite before retiring.
Roger was known for his kindness, generosity, humor, and love for animals especially his kitty, Zoomie. He enjoyed his Harley motorcycle and going to the drag races at Brainerd International Raceway with family and friends.
Roger is survived by his loving mother, Illa Jean Clewette; siblings: Russell (Paula) Mackey, Brenda (Chris) Swenson, Julie (David) Cozad; stepsister, JoAnn (Ron) Palo; stepbrother, Mike Mayry; nieces and nephews: Wade Skoglund, Brandon (Christin) Skoglund, Jacob (Laura) Mackey, Mindy (Christian) Lawien, Ethan (Annie) Mackey, Ryan Mackey (Sandra Matteson), Hannah (Willard) Beggiani; step niece and step nephew, Billy (Erin) Palo, Alexandra Palo; his kitty, Zoomie; and various great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Ray Mackey; and stepfather, Robert Mayry.
The family would like to thank his friends Patti and Jeff Tyinyala. Roger talked often about how happy he was that Patti adopted him as her little brother.
A celebration of Roger's life will be on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Woodlands Bible Church, 204 Adams Avenue, Eveleth, MN. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. and the service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with a luncheon following the service.
