Robert "Bear" James Willis, age 70, of Eveleth, and formerly of Iron River, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at his residence.
Robert was born on January 24, 1954, in Stambaugh, Michigan, to Robert and MaryAnn (Trepanier) Willis. On June 18, 1977, he was united in marriage to Sandra (Haugen) Willis at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth, Minnesota.
He was a graduate of the Iron River Michigan High School and continued his education at Marquette University, where he studied to become a diesel mechanic. Robert was a proud and accomplished diesel mechanic, who dedicated many years of service to United Taconite in Eveleth, Minnesota, retiring in 2013. Robert was also an active union member of USWA 6860.
He had a passion for hunting, especially at his cabin in Amasa, Michigan, this being one of his most treasured pastimes. His retirement home was a haven of rest during the summer months.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and MaryAnn Willis; brother, Mike Willis; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harvey and Mildred Haugen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Haugen) Willis; daughter, Cathy (Steve) Kippola; son, Peter Willis; grandchildren: Kaleigh and Karson Kippola, and Faith Willis; brother, Louie (Ann) Willis; sister-in-law, Lorna Willis; brother-in-law, Randy (Kim) Haugen; sister-in-law, Laura (Ken) Baasi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held at a later date.
