Robert William McBride, 89, of Gilbert passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Minneapolis. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, November 22 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Virginia at 11:00 am with a visitation one-hour prior. Pastor Rick Swenson will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Virginia Honor Guard. Robert was born October 4, 1928 to Leonard and Alyce McBride in Hibbing, MN. He attended Roosevelt High School and The University of Wisconsin-Stout. He was an Industrial Arts Teacher in Port Huron, Michigan, and worked as an Industrial Engineer for L.T.V. Steel for 36 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a World War II veteran; member of Blue Lodge 264, Masonic Lodge of Virginia, Masonic Chapter of Port Huron, MI, and American Legion Post 0138; past-president of Lake Superior Mines Safety Council; past officer of National Safety Congress; VFW member, Junior Achievement Instructor; Junior Chamber and Eshquaguma Country Club member.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with his loving dog, Misty, and his special friend Micki Day. He was also an avid skier, and enjoyed being a ski instructor at Lookout Mountain. Robert was a fun-loving person who enjoyed life and was always supportive of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
