Richard “Rick” William Niesen, age 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026.
Rick was born in Virginia, Minnesota on October 15, 1957, and was raised in Zim, Minnesota. He grew up with an appreciation for challenging work, the outdoors, and the simple joys of life that he carried with him throughout the years.
Rick was known for his big laugh, unforgettable stories, and the kind of moments you would swear could not be true—but somehow always were when Rick told them. He had a way of bringing people together, whether it was in a garage, around a fire, or gathered with family and friends.
He worked as an auto mechanic and had a lifelong passion for small engines, fast cars, tearing it up in the mud. Rick loved anything and the satisfaction of fixing things with his hands. He spent countless hours restoring motorcycles, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles often with his family and friends. He also found freedom on the open road, especially riding motorcycles, where he found a sense of adventure he loved.
Rick enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, whether it was the right way or not if you knew how he hunted, and he always knew the perfect place to bring friends and family for a fun time. Whether it was a day in the woods, out on the water, or simply sharing laughs and stories, Rick made every moment memorable.
Rick loved his family and was always proud of his children. He is survived by his wife, Judith; his sisters, Vicky, Teresa, and Nancy; his brother, Nikki; his children, Tanya; Joshua (Melissa); and Trista Niesen (Brendon). He was also a proud grandfather to Connor, Sophia, Kaiya, Skylan, Dominic, and Gracelyn, and is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews.
He preceded in death by his parents, Joanne Dormanen (John) and Nicholas Niesen.
Rick’s spirit will live in every story told, every road traveled, and every gathering filled with laughter in his memory.
