Richard "Dick" Klinzing, 81, a decades long resident of Babbitt, Minnesota, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, Minnesota.
Dick was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, on March 18, 1943, to Robert and Gertrude Klinzing.
He graduated from Riverdale High School, Muscoda, Wisconsin, in 1961. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving 20 years; retiring as Chief Petty Officer. When asked where all he traveled he'd just say, "I traveled around the world twice." He really knew his geography.
After retiring from his Naval career he worked for Midwest Patrol Security at North Shore Mining, again retiring after 20 years, with the rank of 1st Sgt.
In Babbitt he was very active in the Lion's Club. Involved in numerous Lion's Club activities; being in charge of the wild rice was his favorite. With 40 years in the Conservation Club- he taught gun/hunter safety training to numerous students and would 'lay down the rules'. The kids learned the rules and respected him for that. Through the years former students would remind him of their classtime together.
Dick and Marlynn, his bride of 40 years, so enjoyed long backwoods drives throughout the Northland, snacking on his homemade baked goods together. Dick was a constant book reader and kept a card index of all books read; they also enjoyed countless movies.
Dick is survived by his wife, Marlynn E. Klinzing; five stepchildren: Daniel (Adeline) Wytaske, Jo Ann (Les) Briggs, Vicki (Alexander) Tagarro, Kim (Blake) Borgeson, Trenton (Tracy) Wytaske; brother-in-law, Don Sieger; niece, Jennifer (Kraig) Fladung; great-nieces, Noelle and Haley Fladung; along with many other nieces and nephews, and grand and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and dear sister, Jean.
Dick's Memorial service will be held this spring or summer.
