It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Randy Stuart Peterlin, who departed this life on January 17, 2025, at the age of 66. He was a beloved father, brother, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on November 16, 1958, in Virginia, Randy grew up in West Eveleth, had a deep passion for the outdoors, fishing, hockey and baseball which brought him immense joy and allowed him to build meaningful connections with others. He loved to camp and could quite literally name every lake in Minnesota or point out any state park on a map. He also loved astronomy and would frequent the Paulucci Space Theater in Hibbing with his son Sean, teaching him how to spot specific constellations in the night sky. He had a niche passion for military history and had stated on several occasions that he believed he was a soldier in a past life.
Randy worked most of his life with his brothers at the Cobb Cook Grocery family business and was beloved by his customers and those he mentored. Everyone loved working with Randy and could talk with him for hours about any subject under the sun. He had a quirky sense of humor and was one of the most open minded and accepting individuals—he truly had a heart of gold.
He built a life rooted in love and dedication to family. Randy is survived by his Son, Sean Peterlin; as well as his siblings: Sister, Vicky Moylan; Brother, Larry Peterlin and Sister-in-Law, Sandra Peterlin; Brother, Bruce Peterlin; Sister, Penny Arens; Brother, Dan Peterlin and Sister-in-Law, May Peterlin; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albin (Gabe) Douglas Peterlin Jr., and Carol Jean Peterlin (Tamminen).
Those who knew Randy will remember him for his kind heart, infectious positivity, and boundless support and generosity.
Randy’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved him. Though we mourn the loss of his presence, we celebrate a life well-lived and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Rest in peace, dear Randy. You are home with Grandma Carol now.
