Mary Tamte Obituary

Mary Lou Jyhla Tamte, 90, formerly of Britt, wife of Rev. Kenneth R. Tamte, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Joanne's House Hope Hospice of Bonita Springs, FL. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Range Funeral Home in Virginia at 11:00 am with visitation one-hour prior. Fr. Frank Perkovich will officiate. Burial will take place at Sand Lake Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family of Mary Lou requests donation be made to FBCN, Memo to Prayer Shawl Ministry, 3000 Orange Blossom Dr. Naples, FL, 34109. She was born March 22, 1927 in Flint, MI to Henry and Pearl (Murphy) Jyhla. She was united in marriage to Rev. Kenneth R. Tamte on October 22, 1948. Mary Lou served along side her husband for 45 years, ministering to the congregation of three churches, operating and maintaining Sand Lake Resort from 1955-1973. After Mary Lou and Kenneth retired in 1996, they moved to Naples, FL. In Florida, she enjoyed her home, gardening, meeting new friends and being a part of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Baptist Church of Naples. During that time, she prayed over each stitch that she knitted for the comfort to be given to persons in the hospitals or grieving widows/widowers. After Kenneth's death in 2011, Mary Lou moved to Harbor Chase of Naples, Assisted Living, in 2014 where she resided until her death.

Survivors are her three sons, Tom (Lisa) of Cook, Scott (Tammy) of Cedar, and Dan (Jackie) of Bonita Springs, FL; grandsons, Jason, Erik, Ryan, Zach, and Zeb; great grandchildren, Emmerson, Madison, And Kinley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, daughter Carol Jean, daughter-in-law Paula, and son Timothy.
