Martin Henry Perala

Martin Henry Perala passed away quietly surrounded by his family on March 26, 2018. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Range Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with visitation one-hour prior. Pastor Joyce Piper will officiate. Memorials are preferred to Fairview Range Home Care & Hospice. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Virginia. Marty was born on October 6, 1937 to Waino and Mayme (Seppa) Perala. He graduated from Mountain Iron High School in 1955. He joined the United States Air Force in 1957 and served for 23 years, 10 months, and 18 days, traveling around the world. He married Geraldine (Gerry) Phillips on September 26, 1970. He returned to the Iron Range in 1985.

He was an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 129 of Britt for many years. He was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church and served on its council. He was a 50+ year member of the American Legion Post 220 of Mountain Iron.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gerry. His children Lisa Perala, Matthew Perala (Samantha), and Theresa Gusenius (Matthew). Grandchildren Brigette Zentic, Melody Blechinger, Ashley McCarthy, Sarah Nicely, Victor and Gibson Perala, Rebecca and Alexander Gusenius, and seven great grandchildren. His sister Arlene Creger and his mother-in-law Lucille Steines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John, and his father-in-law Carl Steines.
