Marie Luomanen Obituary

Marie Ann Luomanen, age 76, of Mt. Iron, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 with her family by her side at Essentia Health Hospital in Virginia, MN.

Marie was born on February 20, 1948 in Cloquet, MN to Arnie and June Hill. The oldest of five kids, Marie developed a deep love for family.

Marie married Floyd A. Luomanen in Cloquet on May 22, 1965. They made their home in Mt. Iron, MN where they raised their five children.

Marie loved working with people in many capacities and jobs in her life. She was a preschool teacher, customer service agent, and volunteer at the local nursing homes and hospice patients where she showed loved and compassion to everyone. Marie loved serving others in any way she could. She instilled this spirit of service and helping others in her children.

Marie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved participating in all areas of church, including working with the children and women. She loved singing and praising the Lord through her gift of a beautiful voice. Her joy of singing and her service to others is how she loved serving her Savior. During the last hours of her life she started singing "Jesus Loves Me" with her family surrounding her.

Marie had a sweet spirit that she shared with everyone around her. She was a friend to all, and she went out of her way to make friends, and make all feel included and loved. She wanted to always help anyone in any way she could.

Marie is survived by her five children: Liz (Mike) Sorlie of Gilbert, MN, Jennifer (Greg Morgel) of Duluth, MN, Floyd Jr. of Virginia, MN, and Mary and Eric of Mt. Iron, MN; her granddaughter, Nicole (Shane) Tramontin of Mt. Iron, MN; her mother, June Hill of Carlton, MN; sister, Diane Johnson of Cloquet, MN; her brother, Randy Hill of Carlton, MN; and her three cats: Riley, Buddy, and Baby; who all love and miss her.

Marie was preceded in death by her father, Arnie; her husband, Floyd; her sisters, Margie Swenson and Gail Anderson; and her close friend, Jim Martin.
