Margie was born July 10, 1934 to Merrill and Eleanor (Kent) Billington in New York Mills, MN (Ottertail County). Lived in NYM until 1942, when family decided to move to Oakland, California, where Merrill worked for Moore Shipyards and Eleanor in a canning factory.
Only had ½ days of school as there were so many children. Margie was in the third grade. Her family lived in California for a few years, then headed back to Minnesota. They were in St. Paul awhile and in 1946 moved north to a farm in Idington, MN. She went to 5th-8th grade in a 2-room Idington school. Then to Alango High School where she graduated in 1952.
That fall, Margie got employed as Society Editor of the weekly Range Facts newspaper where she helped with the local "community news." When Mr. Perham (editor) retired, the newspaper folded, but Margie continued to work at Mesabi Daily News for several years. She married Ted Sopp February 11, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church, Virginia, MN and raised 3 sons (Ted, Tom, and John) on Northside.
She enjoyed genealogy and journaling, clipping articles from local newspapers and events.
She lived a good life with no regrets and was always thankful for God's blessings.
