Leonard Hardy Obituary

Leonard Charles Hardy (Uncle Lenny) died on July 17, 2018 while working with his machine (Mustang). He loved to work in the dirt. Leonard was born December 25, 1935 to Charles and Evelyn Hardy in Pine River, MN. He was brought home in a shoe box weighing a little over 2 lbs, not expected to survive. He thrived and lived a long life. Leonard was a graduate of Nashwauk High School, Class of 1954.

Leonard married his sweetheart, Marlene Salminen, on April 21, 1956. Together they had 3 children. He served 22 years In the Army National Guard as a member of the 47th Aviation Battalion. He also was employed by Univac Corp. for 20 years.

Leonard not only served his country, he was also actively involved in the community. He was a Boy Scout Master & Troop Leader, ATV Instructor, a member of the American Legion, the Nashwauk United Methodist Church, the Draft Horse Association and several AA Chapters.

He celebrated 43 years of sobriety with AA and was very dedicated to sponsoring and mentoring others in their struggles with addiction.

Leonard was a man who loved to help others, give words of wisdom and hugs. He walked through life with a smile on his face and a pocket full of candy to share with anyone that crossed his path.

Leonard is survived by his sons, Charles (Debra) Hardy of St. Paul, David (Laurie) Hardy of Nashwauk; sister, Elsie (Arnold) Yuhala of Nashwauk; 15 grandchildren (some referring to him as "Funny Grandpa"); 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
