Lee R. Aho of Babbitt, age 71, passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side, on August 15, 2024.
Lee was the sixth child born to Benjamin and Helia (Nelimark) Aho on September 17, 1952 in Ely. He attended JFK High School, graduating in 1970. He then went on to attend VCC in Ely, and BSU, in Bemidji, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
Lee was a dedicated co-owner and operator of Benville Service Inc and Carquest Auto Parts for 42 years until retiring in 2017.
He had a passion for pheasant hunting with his springer spaniel in South Dakota, fishing in Basswood and Alaska, as well as golfing and bowling with his best friends. He was also an avid gardener where he was meticulous about weeds. One of his greatest accomplishments include extreme hunting and bagging many bull elk in Idaho, guided by his nephew, Cody Kurpius.
Lee and his wife, Diane (Novak), eloped in South Dakota in 1976; and resided in Benville for 48 years.
He is survived by his wife; dog (and former co-worker), Nina; brothers, LeRoy (Cheryl) and Lawrence (Lauren); sisters: Judy Von Wald, Janet Bratlien, Jean Wichern; and many special nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Babbitt Golf Course from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. A luncheon will be provided.
