Kevin Dean Sandnas, age 67, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on January 13, 2025, in Britt, Minnesota.
Born on July 2, 1957, in Virginia, Minnesota, Kevin was the cherished son of Hans Sandnas and Jean (Jarvi) Sandnas.
He made a lifetime of memories in Sandy Township, where he shared his love and laughter with those around him.
Kevin's journey through life was shared with his devoted wife of 45 years, Kathy (Ollila) Sandnas. Together, they built a family and a legacy of love that will endure through their children, Crystal (Sandnas) Linn, Courtney Sandnas, and Heather (Jorgenson) Sandnas. Kevin's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren: Austin Sandnas, Aubrey Linn, Aiden Linn, and Dia Sandnas; who will carry forward his spirit of kindness and joy. Surviving are his siblings: Barbara (Ken) Kallio, Bonnie (Kevin) Lynch, Dale Sandnas, Gail (Bill) Paun, and Peter (Ann) Sandnas. He is also survived by many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Though Kevin was preceded in death by his dear son, Chad Sandnas; and his siblings, Bob Sandnas and Donny Sandnas; as well as his parents; his memory will continue to be a beacon of warmth and guidance for his family and all who knew him.
A proud member of the 49ners, Kevin dedicated many years to his work as a heavy equipment operator before retiring in 2018. His colleagues remember him not just for his skills and dedication, but also for the camaraderie and humor he brought to the workplace every day.
Beyond his professional life, Kevin was a man of many interests and talents. He was happiest when fishing with his best buddy, Brett, at Trout Lake, a place where time seemed to stand still and stories flowed as freely as the water. Kevin's love for the outdoors extended to helping his friends, Craig and Dan, with boats and cars, cutting down trees, and exploring the back trails on his four-wheeler. Evenings often found him by the firepit, music playing, surrounded by the family he adored, sharing stories and laughter under the stars.
Kevin's legacy is one of humor, handiness, and selflessness. His funny anecdotes and ready smile were as much a part of him as his ability to fix anything that needed repair. He was the first to offer help to anyone in need, doing so without any expectation of return. His selfless nature made him a pillar in the lives of his family and friends, and his absence will be deeply felt by all.
The Sandnas family finds comfort in knowing that Kevin's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generous spirit and infectious joy for life. His memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we say goodbye to Kevin, we reflect on a life well-lived, a heart generously shared, and a man who made the world a better place simply by being in it.
His story does not end here, for Kevin Dean Sandnas will forever remain a part of the many lives he's shaped, the community he's contributed to, and the natural world he so dearly loved.
Rest in peace, dear Kevin, until we meet again. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Kevin Dean Sandnas, you are deeply missed, but will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Kevin's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Pike Sandy Town Hall from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
