June Swieringa 1944-2024

June Lee (Hannula) Swieringa, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grand & Great Grandmother, of Vermilion Lake Township, MN, passed away on May 27th 2024, surrounded by family.

June was born in the Biwabik Hospital in the year 1944 to Leo and Laila Hannula of Embarrass, MN. She went to Embarrass HS, and attended the University of Minnesota; where she met her husband of 61 years, Bruce Swieringa. June and Bruce were married in Embarrass, MN in 1963, and lived for 1 year in Minneapolis, but then moved to Bruce’s family homestead in Vermilion Lake Township; and lived in a log cabin for 9 years while Bruce built their current home on the land. It was here that they raised their family, and have lived for over 50 years.

Few people know that June was a certified mechanic, or that she jumped into the primary bread winner role of her young family when the mines went on strike. She worked at Queen City federal Credit union in Virginia until the strike ended. Afterward, she got her accounting degree at Eveleth VoTech and took a job at Bonner and Mallsaid in Virginia. Later she moved to the Embarrass Vermillion Federal Credit union (Tower and Embarrass offices), where she spent the rest of her career and was seemingly known by everyone.
 

June was known for her caring and loving nature and treating others equally. She was always eager to spend time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so loved and will be greatly missed.

June was a devoted Mother to Erick (Jenny), Erin- deceased (Kirk) and Daniel (Bobbi)

Great Grandmother to Owen, Theodore and Gwendolyn

June is survived by husband, Bruce Swieringa; sister, Joyce (Boyd) Halstead; and her sons, Erick and Daniel and their families.
 

Her Celebration of Life service will be at the Little Church at the intersection of Hwy 26 (Wahlstein Rd) and the Wiseman Road on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. This will be a potluck, so bring a favorite dish to share.
