Jeanette L Johnson

Jeanette Lorraine Johnson, of Virginia, MN, was called home by the Lord on October 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 94.

Jeanette was born at home on June 8, 1929, the daughter of Mabel and Erick Olson, in rural Strandquist, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Strandquist. She graduated from Strandquist High School and continued with a certificate from beautician school in Fargo, ND.

On October 28, 1948, she was joined in holy matrimony to Roland Johnson, after his return from WWII. Their adventures of life together included camping, fishing, rodeo, traveling, polka, but nothing more important than their family of six children. They made their home in Kinross, where Jeanette’s gardens flourished. She was an avid berry picker and enjoyed the garden bounty year-round with her canning and preserves. She always cared for her family with activities like hosting Deer Camp and the annual Johnson Christmas. She was an excellent homemaker, known for her breads, lefsa, and caramel rolls, but also worked outside the home to assist the family when needed. Jeanette loved to weave rugs on wooden looms and continued with making quilts for family and as a member of Messiah Lutheran Church’s quilt group. Her faith was of utmost importance to her and she was instrumental in the completion of the Rose window that adorns the sanctuary of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Iron, MN. Jeanette was able to live her life in her own home and used the opportunity to pass her skills, knowledge, humor, and heritage on to her family, of which, they will always be grateful.
 

She was preceded in death by her parents; Mabel and Erick Olson, her husband; Roland Johnson, her sister; Adeline Larson, infant son, and son-in-law; Larry Timm.

She is survived by her five children; Ronald (Margaret) Johnson, Deborah Timm, Marlys (Gerald) Hill, Susan (Steven) Ollila, Frederick Johnson, special niece Sharon DeMar, nine grandchildren; Brian (Nancy) Johnson, Jason (Lori) Foucault, Jeremy Johnson, Jennifer Fredrickson, Katherine (William) Narog, Joseph (Michelle) Fredrickson, Sarrah (Travis) Kolari, Sean (Michelle) Timm, Derek Timm, and is survived by many additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren she has welcomed through the years, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
 

Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mountain Iron, MN on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at noon. The Pastor Laura Mills Anderson will be the officiant. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. A reception and gathering in the fellowship hall will follow. Internment will be at a later date.
