Janice Arlene Oklak, of Eveleth Minn., passed away on May 7, 2025, at the Virginia Hospital.
Born on April 5, 1956, to Herbert and Arlene (Lassard) Erickson in Duluth, Minnesota. She graduated from Denfeld High School.
She was united in marriage to Mike on Feb. 13, 2005 while doing something they loved, ice fishing. Jan carried her strong spirit and love for the outdoors throughout her life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of nature—hunting and fishing were among her favorite pastimes. Whether it was sturgeon fishing on Rainy River or ice fishing on Lake of the Woods, Jan cherished these adventures and the memories they created. Her green thumb was evident in her gardening pursuits, and she could often be found working on puzzles during quieter moments at home. She also shared a special bond with Rueger, their beloved dog who was always by her side.
Jan will be remembered by her husband Michael Oklak; her son Greg Oman and his partner Angie Brown; Mandy and her children; stepson Troy Oklak and his partner Krissy Kangas; stepdaughter Gwen Nelson and her husband Thomas; sister Nancy Cowan and her husband Bob and their children Dana and Mica; brother Herbert Erickson; and grandchildren Samuel Nelson, Sienna, Ryder, and Asher Kangas; and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Aubree Nelson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Timbers Edge Grill & Bar on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
