Janice Ann Knapp, of Virginia, passed away on December 31st, 2025, at Essentia Heath St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
Born June 14th, 1945, Janice was the oldest daughter of twelve children. She grew up on a farm in the small town of Freedom, WI, near Appleton. Janice moved to Virginia with her husband Mathew to raise a family with two sons.
She worked at General's Grocery (where Super One South is now) for many years, before being hired at the new Kmart, where she worked for almost 20 years. She also worked at Edgewood Vista before finally retiring from Dollar Tree.
Janice enjoyed being outdoors. She loved gardening, sewing, baking, fishing, camping and even snowmobiling. She also truly enjoyed just visiting with the neighbors and trips back home to the Appleton area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alois and Elaine (Foley) Van Vreede. As well as her older brothers, Dan Van Vreede and Donald Van Vreede; and also her sister, Pat Rasmussen.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Mathew Knapp; and her two sons, Brian Knapp and Curtiss Knapp. As well as her siblings: Lyle Van Vreede, Gary (Sue) Van Vreede, Lee (Stephanie) Van Vreede, Carol (Leroy) Hietpas, Donna (Gary) Sauby, Diane (Richard) Benz, Linda Fischer, Mary (Ed) Balcerak, and Dave Rasmussen.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia with the visitation being held at 12:00 p.m. Janice will be laid to rest at the Calvary Cemetery in Virginia, Minn.
