Jack Henry Carlson Sr.

Jack H. Carlson Sr., 92, of Hibbing, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at his residence.

He was born December 12, 1930 in Duluth, Minn to Henry and Saimi (Oksanen) Carlson. He was the youngest of six children and was schooled in Wawina and Warba, Minn. Jack served his country in the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Florence Sipinen in the Wawina Community Church. Jack attended the First Baptist Church in Hibbing. He was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad, Jones and Laughlin Steel Company, and later LTV for 36 years. He was one of the last to work in the Red Ore mines. Jack enjoyed fishing, gardening, and going to his grandchildren's sports events.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Leonard Carlson, Harold Carlson, and William Carlson; sisters, Ruth Ylitalo and Doris Heikkinen.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; four sons: Jack (Ginney) Carlson Jr. of Hibbing, Kenneth Carlson of Hibbing, David Carlson of Gauiter, Mississippi, Kevin Carlson of Chisholm; grandchildren, Alicia Thomsen of Hibbing, Nicole Wierimaa of Hibbing, and Andrew Carlson of Eveleth; great grandchildren: Talia Mae, Natalie Grace, and Addison Taylor; special daughter-in-law, Cheryl Carlson of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Fairview Oncology and Infusion staff, especially Dr. Provatas and Kim Pettinelli. Also, deepest gratitude to Fairview Hospice.

A Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Hibbing at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Wawina Cemetery.
