Helga V. Mattson, 90, of Silver Bay, formerly of Rural Aurora, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Two Harbors. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1:00pm at Palo Congregational Church. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Rev. Jerry Kosanovich will officiate. Helga Viola Mattson was born May 31, 1927 in Palo to John and Mayme (Hill) Kari. She grew up in Aurora and graduated from the Aurora High School in 1945. She completed the secretarial course at Minneapolis Business College. She was a clerk for many years through the Central Cooperative Wholesale Auditing Department, Aurora Cooperative Association and retired from the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes school district after 30 years as a payroll clerk. She married Robert J. Mattson on June 19, 1948 where the couple made their home in Rural Aurora. She was a long-time member of Palo Congregational Church, Loon Lakes Tops, Palo Markam Senior Citizens, American Association of Retired Persons, and the Mesabi East Retired Educator’s Association.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting and other needlework, birdwatching, and feeding the chipmunks from her patio. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mayme Kari; and husband, Robert Mattson.
