Hartley Oliver Sandstrom

Hartley Oliver Sandstrom, 80, of Toivola, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. A Memorial service will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Toivola Hope Lutheran Church at 4:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 3:30. Paul Mueller will officiate. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Hibbing.

Hartley was born June 19, 1938, in Hibbing, to Olaf and Martha (Sorvari) Sandstrom. He attended school in Toivola-Meadowlands and after graduation he attended U.M.D. Hartley worked for the County Road Department for 30 years, was a fire warden for 30 plus years, and the Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor for several years.

He enjoyed farming.

Hartley was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Martha; brothers-in-law, Dennis Lindgren and Leroy Wirtanen; and nephew, Charles Lindgren.

He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Wirtanen of Hibbing and Charlotte Lindgren (Dr. Dale Wain) of Toivola; nephew, Michael Lindgren (Julie) of Toivola; nieces, Joyce Tresemer (Ron) of Hibbing and Nancy Skalsky of Cedar, MN; great nieces and nephew, Angela Tresemer, Stephanie Jalonen, Casey Lindgren, Melinda Barto and Ashley Skalsky.
