Glenn Van Schyndel, 96, of Hibbing, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his residence with his wife at his side. A Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Hibbing on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Rev. Greg Stevens and Rev. Ross Crowe will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by Mid-Range Honor Guard. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Hibbing.
Glenn was born February 18, 1922 in Platte, South Dakota to Christian and Trina (Meyer) Van Schyndel. He moved from Platte to Meadowlands in 1935, to Cook in 1958, and settled in Hibbing in 1960. Glenn served in the U.S. Army, in the South Pacific, from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He married Dorothy Schanche on December 15, 1946 in Meadowlands. Glenn farmed and worked at Hanna Mines. He was a deputy sheriff for St. Louis County for 28 years, retiring as a lieutenant. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church, where he was very active in church ministries and for many years serving as a deacon. He came to personally know the Lord as a young man. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and westerns. Glenn was a "jack of all trades".
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
