Everett W. Hietamaki, age 91, died on December 9th, 2025, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay, Minnesota.
Everett was born July 29th, 1934, to Waino Matthew Hietamaki and Aini Marie Pulkkinen. He was a lifelong resident of Cherry, Minnesota, until February of 2024. Everett graduated from Cherry High School in 1952.
Everett enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he served as a mechanic from December 1956 to December of 1959, at the rank of LCpl. After his service, he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49, and was a member for 60 years. Everett was also a devout member of the Faith United Lutheran Church, and a member of the Clinton-Cherry Cemetery Board.
Everett liked to hunt, fish, listen to music, go to plays, participate in Finnish discussions, and read, especially Loren Eiseley's works about art anthropology.
Everett was preceded in death by his life partner, Doris DeMars; parents, Waino and Aini Hietamaki; step-father, Eino Sikkila; cousin, John Pulkkinen; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Everett is survived by his cousins.
Everett's motto in life was "Everyone should be kind, and this world would be a better place."
Everett's funeral service will be held at Faith United Lutheran Church in Cherry, Minnesota, on Saturday, December 13th, 2025. The viewing will be at 1:00 P.M., with the service starting at 2:00 P.M. and Military Honors to follow at 2:30 P.M. The burial will be in the Spring of 2026.
Memorials are preferred to Faith United Lutheran Church or a Humane Society of your choice.
