Dorothy Jean Luukkonen

Dorothy Jean Luukkonen, 92 of Iron, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth, 201 Station 44 Rd., at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Pastor Art Dale will officiate. Burial will take place at Zim Cemetery. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Virginia. Dorothy was born March 26, 1925 in Zim, MN to Knute and Celia (Anthony) Peterson. She graduated from Cherry High School. On March 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Victor Luukkonen in Virginia, MN and spend 58 wonderful years together. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, knitting, crocheting, reading books, walleye fishing with her husband, and was an active member of Zim and Iron Senior Citizens.

Dorothy is survived by her five good kids: Shirley (Steve) Smith, Janet (John) Kersch, Carol (Dale) Heins, Bill (Cindy) Luukkonen and Paul (Barbara Fritz) Luukkonen; eight grandchildren: Luke Smith, Lisa (Smith) Mangan, Elizabeth and Andrew Kersh, Christine Goyette and Billy Heins, Cassie (Luukkonen) Landgren and Kyle Luukkonen; one great grandchild, Owen Smith.
