Dorene Anne Korpi

Dorene Anne Korpi, 74, of Britt, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Essentia Health in Virginia. A private service will be held at a later date. Dorene was born April 6, 1943 in Virginia, MN to Robert and Ann Toleen. Dorene attended Elementary school in Virginia, MN. She then moved with her parents to South Grove, MN where she attended Mountain Iron High School. She was President of her Senior Class and graduated as Salutatorian of her class in 1961. She also was a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, she attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Duluth, MN and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1964. On January 25, 1964, she was united in marriage to Norman Korpi. Dorene was employed at the Veteran's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. She then moved back up to the Iron Range and worked at the Virginia Regional Medical Center. In 1968, she settled with her family in Babbitt, MN where she worked as the Babbitt School Nurse. She was well-liked by all the kids who knew her. The 1988 Babbitt yearbook was dedicated to her. She then moved to Britt, MN. She worked for Lutheran Social Services at the Kinney Shelter, where she helped many troubled children. She worked there several years before she retired.

She enjoyed spending time at the lake, cooking and baking, reading, spending time with friends and family, and shared a deep affinity for cats.

She was kind and compassionate to everyone who knew her, and had a witty sense of humor that brightened and dark day.

She is survived by:

Husband, Norman of Britt, MN Children: Lisa Korpi of Mountain Iron, MN Joel (Laura) Korpi of Evelth, MN Grandchildren: Chelsea, Caitlin, Nicholas, Emily, and Jamie She is also survived by her Springer fur babies, Buster and Sammy

She was preceded in death by her parents; special cousins, Susan Mattson and Jane Roberts; Springer fur babies, Barney, Flicka, Boomer, and Henry; a Siamese fur baby, Pepino
