Diana Killian Obituary

Diana Marilyn Killian came into this world on March 19, 1940, in Virginia, MN, to her parents Helen (Mykra) and Elmer Thompson; she left this world to live eternally with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2024, at the age of 83. What a blessed assurance this is!

As a resident of Diamond Willow for the past 22 months and under the recent care of Fairview Hospice, her Alzheimer’s Disease continued to worsen until she could no longer fight the dementia battle and its many losses. She was released from a body that no longer supported her ability to finish out her life with joy and activity. We thank and praise Gerald for his love, devotion, and caregiving for over 12 years.

Diana and Gerald were united in marriage on May 10, 1975. They built their own home and raised their family in Iron, MN.

She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Wester, father Elmer Thompson, and the father who raised her Clayton Johnson, sister Judy (Patrick) Wudinich, son Mitchell (Karen) Dormanen and son-in-law Steve Mayry.

Surviving without her are husband Gerald Killian, children Karen Maki (Roger) Moller, James (Laurie Erickson) Pikula, Brian (Carrie Lehman) Pikula, Melissa Mayry, Leah Killian (Jonah) Smith, sisters Donna (Jim) Seppi and Linda (Bob) Kolocek, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and uncountable relatives and friends. Oh, how we miss you, Diana, and are feeling such sweet sorrow in your entering the gates of Heaven.

Diana graduated from Virginia Roosevelt High School in 1958. Throughout her adult life, she was employed by Mesabi Daily News, Century 21, Engman Insurance Agency, and Nelson Williams.

Diana was certainly a one of a kind – funny, sassy, Finnish & Sisu proud, and one with a bark bigger than her bite, family-focused, and generous. We remember her Avon Cotillion and Sweet Honesty, chap stick, four girl pictures and nights out, home-made clothes, and family gatherings. What she did for others showed her loving and caring heart - always doing for family, relatives, and friends.

Activities in her life included bowling, Soroptimist Club, Christian Women’s Club decorating, adult color point, tri-chem painting, sewing, crocheting, embroidering, scrapbooking, planning & hostessing family events, travelling, flower gardening, mowing grass on the riding mower, splitting & stacking wood, photographing fresh snow & deer, and building a home and family with her husband, Gerald. A very busy and active lady.

A celebration of Diana’s life will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 11AM at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. Visitation will be prior to service at 10AM. A luncheon will follow downstairs in the social hall. Her burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial gifts will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
