Dennis "Denny" Serson
December 29, 1940 – January 28, 2026
Dennis "Denny" Serson, age 85, passed away on January 28, 2026.
He was born on December 29, 1940, to Michael and Elizabeth Serson. He was baptized and received his first Communion at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He attended Marquette Catholic School from first through sixth grade and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He continued his education with two years of college.
In 1950, his father began selling fruits and flowers from the family's backyard. The business later relocated to Virginia's Northside and became known as Range Landscape and Garden Center. Dennis joined his father in the business and, after many years of working side by side, purchased it due to his father's declining health. Under his leadership, the business grew and became a well-known and respected establishment throughout the Iron Range.
Dennis took great pride in his work and in the many landscaping projects he completed for homes, cabins, businesses, streets, and highways across the region. Among his notable projects were landscaping at the DECC (Duluth Entertainment Convention Center), which was featured on the cover of the Duluth phone book, the new highway between Eveleth and Virginia, and the St. Louis County building in downtown Virginia.
Denny married Beverly (Bergstrand, Johnson) and together they welcomed their daughter, Elizabeth Marie. He was also proud to embrace Beverly's four children as his own, cherishing his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, his daughter Elizabeth, his son-in-law Phillip and their daughter Emma Brenden. He is also survived by his sister Sally (Michael) Ribarczek. His children Kim Johnson, David Johnson, James Johnson, and Paul Johnson; grandchildren Kyle (Jessica) Johnson, Tyler (Chelsea) Johnson, Lacy Vasquez, and Lindsay Lund; six great grandchildren as well as three nieces and three nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Michael "Mickie" and Elizabeth "Billie" Serson, and by his sisters, Verle (Robert) Fuchs and Billie Jean Serson.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the loving care and support shown to Dennis during his declining health, and to the many customers, contractors, and friends whose relationships he valued throughout the years.
A service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 306 2nd Street South, Virginia, MN.
In lieu of memorials, plant a tree or a colorful germanium in honor of Dennis' memory.
