Dennis A. Jacobson, 85, of Britt, passed away on June 1st, 2026, at the Essentia Health Virginia Hospital.
Dennis Albert Jacobson was born June 28, 1940, in Virginia to Albert and Esther (Pylka) Jacobson. He graduated from Embarrass High School in 1960. In high school, Dennis was voted most valuable player in track. He ran the 100 and 220, threw shotput, and was the anchor man for the 880-relay team. He also received the Knights of Kaleva Award and the Gus Papinba Award. Dennis played football for 3 years and was voted all county. Following graduation, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4 years on the US Hornet CVS-12 as a Third-Class Petty Officer. Upon return from the Navy, he lived in Virginia and worked for Pep's Bakery. After that, he worked at Schweigert Meat Company, Franklin Foods, and lastly, he worked for Aysta Dairy as a driver salesman until his retirement. On October 24, 1970, he was united in marriage to Gloria Joan Hilmas and the couple had 3 children.
Dennis loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and his biggest passion was woodworking. Most importantly, he loved spending time with friends and family.
Dennis was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his children: Denise (Vince) Dishneau, Kevin Jacobson (Tara Gustafson), and Christina Jacobson (Tim Bartels), all of Britt; grandchildren: Christopher (Jessie) Dishneau, Brynn Dishneau, Taylor Dishneau, Riley (Kenzie) Jacobson, Justine (Andrew) Dale, and Jada Jo Deutsch; great grandchildren, Gage and Lucy Dishneau; sisters: Florence Durbin, Darleen Koupus, Sharon (Tom) Paavala, Karen Lehto (Denny Wessman), and Janet (Mike) Swanson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barb Hilmas and Dennis Hilmas Sr.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Esther; wife, Gloria; sisters, Tammy Jacobson and Gail Jacobson; brothers, Alvin Jacobson and Brian Jacobson, sisters-in-law, Barbara Hilmas and Edith Hilmas; brothers-in-law: Jacko Lehto, Raymond Lehto, Duane Hilmas, and Brian Koupas; nephews: Jesse Maki, Damion Youngren, and Dennis Hilmas Jr.; niece, Lynette Hilmas; and father and mother-in-law, Eugene and Mayme Hilmas.
A funeral will be held on Friday, June 5th, 2026, at Range Funeral Home at 1:30 P.M. with visitation starting at 12:30 P.M.
