David D. Samuelson, 71, of Virginia, MN, died peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters, Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Essentia Health-St Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.
David was born September 16, 1951, in Brookings, S.D. to Lester and Bernice (Olson) Samuelson. When he was one, the family moved to Virginia, MN. He graduated from Virginia High School in 1970. David married Anna Cundy in 1973 and they had many wonderful years together raising their four daughters. He attended UMD and the U of M. David worked for U.S. Steel and Prudential Insurance Company until his retirement.
David’s life was a testament of grace and kindness to all those who knew him. The tenderhearted love he had for his daughters, grandchildren, and family was evident in the way he spoke, joked, and encouraged. He instilled the love of travel and exploring into his family. He loved gardening and all his plants. He loved riding his bike, visiting with friends, and his cat Sara. He was gentle and had a love for all creatures, especially dogs. He would often joke and say that he liked dogs more than people! He never took life’s troubles too seriously and was known to respond with “fair to partly” when asked how he was doing. He was always full of shenanigans and fun mischief as those who knew him had the privilege of experiencing.
Above all else, was the love he had for his Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he trusted in years ago after hearing the message of the glorious gospel. I Corinthians 15:3-4 How Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures. He was buried and rose again on the third day according to the scriptures. Because of his decision to accept the free gift of salvation, David is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father, basking in the warmth and light of His love and reuniting with those who have gone before.
He is survived by his sister, Roberta Johnson, brother, Larry (Janelle) Samuelson, four daughters, Melanie (Leonard) Samuelson-Johnson, Joy (Mikell) Ruedebusch, Lindsay (Michael) Rousseau, Natalie (Erick) Lenzen, twelve grandchildren, Haylie (Jake) O’Bey, McKenzie Ruedebusch, Keegan Ruedebusch, Sadie Samuelson-Reed, Dawson Ruedebusch, Mason Johnson, Landon Rousseau, Sabin Reed, Siena Johnson, Briella Lenzen, Tucker Rousseau, Adriana Johnson, and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was proceeded in death by his parents, Lester and Bunny Samuelson, sister, Gloria Saatela, and brother-in-law, Clifford Johnson.
We would like to give a special thank you to the Virginia Fire and Ambulance Department, air care, and the Essentia Health ER and Neuro Trauma Team for their excellent care of our father.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Heritage Trail Bible Church, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Gus Layman will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service.
