Charles A. Skarp, 72, died at home on May 9, 2023 under hospice care lovingly provided by his wife, Peggy and son, Dan.
Chuck was born in Virginia, Minnesota on December 6, 1950 to Philip and Helen Skarp. His happy childhood years were spent in the village of Franklin at the end of Chestnut Street.
After graduation from Roosevelt High School in 1969, Chuck enlisted in the army and was sent to Vietnam where he served in the military police in Saigon. His death was a by-product of Agent Orange.
A painter by trade, Chuck was that rare man who didn’t define his personhood by his job. He was his own person with a strong moral compass and a quiet, inner strength. He loved nature and was a pet owner many times over. He loved poetry. It was a marvel to listen to him recite, from total recall, line after line of beautiful words.
In 1991, Chuck met Peggy and lost his heart forever. Their union can best be described by their motto: We are team Skarp and we sizzle! That electrifying team lasted over 30 years.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Helen Skarp and brother, Donald.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Rose and pets, Rosie and Rudy; children, Maija Skarp (Tom) Klees, Cecilia Genereux, Dan Genereux, Kurt (Kate) Genereux, Craig (Ana) Genereux and Renee (Tim) Palluck; sisters, Kathleen Lahti and Mary (James) Yliniemi, and grandchildren Cole Augustson, Leo, Jack, and Noah Genereux, and Elizabeth Palluck; and many nieces and nephews.
Family graveside service will be held in Virginia at a later date.
