Charles “Chuck” Drummond Albrant

Charles "Chuck" Drummond Albrant, 79, of Hibbing, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Hibbing. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Nashwauk. Visitation will begin at noon followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Diane Bolles and Pastor Dan Albrant will officiate. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Hibbing.

Chuck was born to Elsie Mikolas Albrant on February 19, 1939 in Waukegan, Illinois. He grew up as an only child as his infant brother died early. He was blessed to be surrounded by maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins, as he grew up on the family farm in Owatonna, MN. He graduated from Owatonna High School, class of 1958, and eloped and married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Kay Clark, on December 23, 1958 in Forest City, Iowa. Charles was an accomplished trumpet player and went on to play in the Marine Corps Marching Band at 8th and 1 in Washington, D.C. He was honorably discharged from the Marines and spent a few months training to be a gunsmith before signing on to be a postal employee in Denver, Colorado. He retired from the Rochester, MN post office after a total of 41 years as a letter carrier.

Sandra and Chuck had three children, Kenneth (died 2013), Daniel and Laura. They lived most of their married life in Rochester, MN, and then moved to Nashwauk, MN in retirement to be near the lakes, grandchildren, and to live the smaller town life. Chuck was introduced to the Masonic Lodge in both Stewartville and Rochester. He and Sandy were both involved in Eastern Star and in many other Masonic groups. They were both active in the "Dragon Patrol" and participated in numerous summertime parades. Chuck was transformed by his time with the Masons and supported them with his time and treasures. He loved flying and dreamed of building his own airplane (he obtained his private pilot’s license while in high school). He loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing and was an accomplished naturalist. He always had an affinity for firearms and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of the history and use of all guns. One of his favorite books was the annual "Gun Digest"; he loved to buy, sell, shoot and "tinker" with guns. He was a tremendous reader and his interests were wide - he was always seen with a book, until dementia made reading too frustrating.

He is survived by his son, Daniel (wife-Lucinda; sons, Chris and Danny); and daughter, Laura (husband-Rob; son, Ian and daughter, Kayla).

He was predeceased by his wife, Sandy; son, Ken; and mother, Elsie.
