Carmen was born on July 16, 1930 in Virginia to Michael and Assunta (Mary) Figliola, who immigrated from Montefalcone, Italy. He was proud of his Italian heritage; was a member of the Italian American Club, Knights of Columbus and was the last remaining Italian from his youth on his beloved 13th Street North. He married late but found the perfect lady, marrying Darleen Walkky on October 8, 1983. Many knew him for his friendly outgoing gift of gab or a quick not of the head and wave of the hand and to say hello; never failing to acknowledge anyone he passed. His life-ling passion for sports began as a youth, spending hours on the golf course. He was well known and appreciated by numerous high school athletes who became accustom to seeing him in the stands, getting a piece of advice for their next game or sharing his knowledge of sports trivia. He didn’t like sitting still and would settle for a drive to Sand Lake to take a Sauna; a comfort that grew on him.
His greatest joy was family and spending time with them. He never wanted much; he was happy watching sports and knowing others were ok and happy. An exceptional joy in his life was knowing that he converted his beloved wife to a sports enthusiast. His family and friends were truly blessed to have has his love and support. He will be forever remembered in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Christine R. Fodness
Carmen is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Darleen; nieces, Lorraine (Gary) Sether, Renae Fodness, and Colleen Fodness; great nieces, Cheryl Poppenhagen, Anne (Bryan) Genadek, Mackenzie Fodness; 10 great-great nieces and nephews who loved him as a father and grandfather; step-children, Ron (Jackie) Walkky, Kathy (Sam) Aluni, Debra (Richard) Wica, Jack (Brenda) Walkky, Olaf (Debra) Walkky, Anita (Leon) Hiti; 13 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren
