Bonita (Bonnie) Altobelli, 67, of Virginia passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Essentia Virginia Hospital on May 9, 2025.
Bonnie was born in Chisholm to Oliver and Helen Hendrickson of Kinney, where she was raised. She graduated from the Buhl schools in 1976. She was united in marriage to James (Hamer) Altobelli of Virginia on August 27, 1977. She attended college at the University of Minnesota Duluth and went on to work in a career she loved for Homes Inc. for 17 years where she taught life skills to disabled adults. Later, Bonnie went on to working at the Mesabi Daily News until cancer made it too difficult for her to continue.
Above all, Bonnie will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her two sons and to her beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed volunteering as a director to the Sand Lake Shuffle, loved playing keno at the casino and gardening. Bonnie had a deep love for each and all of her family dogs who brought her much joy and companionship and were truly considered part of her family.
She is survived by her husband, James (Hamer) Altobelli of Virginia; sons, Keith (Sara) of Mt. Iron and Scott (Gina) of Virginia; grandchildren Nicholas, Justin, Ashlyn, Logan, Alexander, and Alexis; sister Brenda Laveck of Ashland, VA and brother Bruce (Linda) Hendrickson of Phoenix; brother-in-law, Frank Glavan of Hibbing, John (Cindy) Altobelli of Tower, Joe Whalen of St. Cloud and one sister-in-law, Patty (Tom) Kallio of New Brighton, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved dog, Sophie.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Helen Hendrickson; her parents-in-law, Joseph and Ursula Altobelli; sisters Beverly Martin and Barbara Glavan; brother-in-law, Joe (Beverly) Altobelli, Gene Martin and David Laveck and one sister-in-law, Judy Whalen.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Range Funeral Home, 911 16th St. North in Virginia. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed with a service at 1:00 PM led by Pastor Bruce Dissell.
