Bertha Helen Saukko

Bertha H. Saukko, 93, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at St. Raphael's Health and Rehab in Eveleth. Per her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are with Range Funeral Home in Virginia. To sign the online guest book or to send condolences, please visit www.rangefuneralhomes.com.

Bertha Helen Saukko was born August 22, 1924 in Gilbert to Emil and Sandra (Nivus) Johnson. She met her future husband, Axel Saukko, on the West Coast. Bertha worked for the U.S. Air Force taking fingerprints then later worked for the U.S. Navy as a bookkeeper. Axel and Bertha united in marriage on May 5, 1945. They settled in Fayal Township where they built a home and raised their family.

Bertha was a talented lady who loved to knit, crochet and sew. Her home always welcomed visitors with the smell of delicious Finnish bread, biscuit and cheese she so enjoyed baking. Bertha had great appreciation for music and was an avid listener of Finnish folk music.

She is survived by:
Children: Ronald Saukko of Melrude and Lois (Keith) Nelson of Eveleth
Grandchildren: Heikki, Hannah, Paavo, Matti, Kaija, Sheena, Hillary, and Aaron
Numerous Great Grandchildren
Numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Axel; son, Robert; sisters, Helmi, Hilda, Tyne, Elsie, Marie, and Helen; and brothers, William, Toivo, and John
