Arlene Verna (Perala, Puttonen) Laine
December 19, 1930 – January 12, 2024
Arlene Laine passed away on January 12, 2024 at the age of 93. She was born on December 19, 1930 to Konstu and Feemia Perala in Toivola, MN.
Arlene was united in marriage to John Puttonen on December 17, 1949. They had four daughters, Karen, Beverly, Theresa, and Cheryl. They made their home in Toivola. John Puttonen passed away in June 1958.
Arlene married Axel Laine on February 1, 1964. They continued to live in Toivola. Arlene and Axel had a daughter Kathy, and a son David. Several years after the death of her husband Axel in January 1985, Arlene moved to the Eveleth, MN area.
Arlene enjoyed her flower gardens and sewing. She was a wonderful seamstress, making many of the clothes for her children, and her children’s dolls. Arlene was called upon to mend tractor seats as well for a few of the farmers in the Toivola area. She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Toivola, and many people raved about the great potato salad she made for pot-lucks. Arlene took tremendous pride in watching her son David pitch in Little League, and watching the Minnesota Vikings on television. She also enjoyed attending the Toivola-Meadowlands basketball games, then stopping for a pizza on the drive home. She would also refer to David’s friends as “my other boys”.
Arlene is survived by her sisters Audrey Gurd of Grand Haven, MI, and Janet Young of Duluth, MN; her children: Karen Hansen and Beverly Delich, both of Duluth, MN, Theresa (Bill) Schroeder, Larimore, ND, Cheryl (Jean) Dahlman, Iron, MN, Kathy Putzel, and David Laine, both of Eveleth, MN. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life and burial will be planned later in the spring in Toivola, MN.
Memorials are preferred to Cornerstone Villa, 1000 Forest St, Buhl, MN 55713.
