Antti Elias Otava passed away on March 18, 2025, at his home in Mt. Iron.
He was born on September 26, 1933, in Karvia, Finland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elda and Juho; and his wife, Sirkka Otava, whom died in a car accident in 1968.
He is survived by two sons, John and Miika (Amy) Otava; two grandchildren, Angela and Elias Otava; and three great-grandchildren: Iris, Will and Noel Winger.
He served in the Finnish Army before emigrating from Finland to Mt. Iron in 1962 when he was 29.
Antti was a jack of most construction trades, but excelled at carpentry and woodworking. After working for other construction companies, he started Otava Construction and ran the company until he retired.
We would like to express a special thank you to Gary and Nikki Stark, Gordy Dahl, and Tom Legg for their unwavering love and care for Antti that increased his quality of life greatly.
A Celebration of Antti's Life will be held 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Range Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. All are welcome to attend. Antti’s remains will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery next to his wife, Sirkka, at a later date.
