Elwin E. Klimek, 86, Babbitt, died Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Carefree Living in Babbitt, MN. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. Piux X Catholic Church in Babbitt, with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Fr. William Skarich will be the celebrant. Elwin was born June 17, 1926, at home in Leaf Mountain Township, the son of Francis and Elizabeth (Loeffler) Klimek. He grew up in Leaf Mountain Twp, by Alexandria, MN. On November 1, 1947, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Marvel Louise Patzoldt. Elwin was employed with Max Gray Lumber in Hibbing, and started in 1954 as a shovel operator at Reserve Mining and work there for 30 years. He was part owner of Al’s Bus Lines in Babbitt, Klimek-Mealy-Holm Logging, owner/operator of Klimek Mail and the Red Carpet Motel in Babbitt, and a partner in Klimek Enterprises. Elwin was a charter member and held many offices with the Babbitt Steel Worker’s Credit Union, and was an active member of the Steel Workers Union Local #4757, Knights of Columbus, the Snow Igloos, and a snowmobile trail administrator. He enjoyed living life and spent it hunting, fishing, boating, dancing, and spending time working on and being at the cabin. Elwin was a devoted husband and caregiver to his cherished wife and dedicated to his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
