Wanda Marie Hilbrand, 85, of Hibbing, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Cornerstone Villa in Buhl. A Memorial Service will be held at the Hibbing Church of Christ in Hibbing on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M.
Wanda was born October 17, 1925 to Ira and Grace (Sublette) Wilkes in Houston, TX. She graduated from San Jicinto High School in Houston in 1944. She married Virgil Hilbrand on October 13, 1944 in Houston. They settled in Harlingen, TX where she raised her family. Wanda worked as the receptionist and head switchboard operator for the Texas State Tuberculosis Hospital for 7 years. Wanda and Virgil lived in Corpus Christi from 1966-1976, Jacksonville, FL from 1976-1981, then moved to Slayton, MN and were caretakers at the Baptist Bible Camp on Lake Shetek. Following retirement in 1987 they moved to Babbitt. In 2001 they settled in Hibbing. Wanda was a member of the Hibbing Church of Christ. She enjoyed her children, dominos, baking, cooking and sewing. She was known for her friendly and outgoing personality.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Grace Wilkes; her daughter, Karen Rae Laird in 2009, one brother and one sister.
