George Duane Anderson, Sr, 64, of Virginia passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Essentia Health-SMDC in Duluth. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Range Funeral Home in Virginia with visitation one hour prior to the service.
George was born on July 7, 1947 in Eyota, Minnesota to Norman and Lorraine (Peterson) Anderson. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Disabled American Vets. George was a crusher operator for United Taconite and retired after 31 years.
George loved ice fishing. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved family, life and friends. He could never be replaced by those who loved him.
He is survived by his children: Gloria Anderson, Carla Dombrowski (John Colterman), Donna Anderson and Paul, Norman Anderson, George Anderson, Jr-aka “Chip”, Shanaa Rainey (Patrick), Shelly Miller (Fred), and Kenneth O’Brien. Siblings: Darrell Anderson, Marjorie Pikula, William (Millie) Anderson, Robert (Diane) Anderson, Mary (Nick) Gerulli and Myrna (Leonard) Magnuson. Twenty-two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Former wives and friends: Valarie (Baty) Hietala and Betty Suihkonen. “The love of his life, Kathleen, his wife, as he was mine”.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
